Mens update.....

The mens group met on a glorious Saturday on 22nd May 2010.

A very satisfactory and enjoyable first get together of Dad's, Grandads and male Carers of children with difficulties or disabilities who live in Gateshead.

We will be getting together again on:

Saturday 4th September 2010 - 1pm to 3pm

Saturday 11th December 2010 - 1pm to 3pm

Saturday 5th March 2011- 1pm to 3pm

It has not been decided as yet where we will be meeting as we would like to encourage more people to be involved and incorporate more people's views and needs in planning the get together.

National Play Day 2010

This event is part of Playday, the annual celebration of children's right to play! There will be free activities and games for all ages.

Summer Active Kidz Play Schemes

Active Kidz is a fully inclusive activity scheme for all children and young people aged 5-19 years. A wide range of fun filled and challenging activites are available and include arts, crafts, games, dance, sport and much, much more.

Gateshead Toy Library at Tyne View Centre

Gateshead Toy Library is a community resource to improve play facilities for children and families in Gateshead.

From September there will be a library outreach session at Tyne View Centre on:

23rd September 2010, 10am-12pm
28th October 2010, 10am-12pm
25th November, 10am-12pm


Just order the toys you would like to hire and we'll bring them along for you.

The sensory room and chill out room is also available at this time for you to use!

All work and no play? Not at KIDS!

As a Local Area Supervisor you would be co-ordinating a project that supports disabled children and young people to enjoy activities of their choice whilst giving their families a break from their caring role. You will need previous experience of working with disabled children and their families and will need a positive outlook and a desire to make a positive difference to the lives of disabled children and young people.  For this we offer flexible working hours and competitive rates of pay.
To Co-ordinate the KIDS Short Break Services in line with the National Care Standards for Domiciliary Care.


To work in partnership with children and young people actively involving them in the development of their care plans and service monitoring.

To work in partnership with parents, social care services and workers, to ensure that the highest level of care is provided.

To carry out a welcome to KIDS home visit.


For this post you will be working 22 hours per week at Grade 5 £19,795 pro rata. The post will be based at the Tyne View Centre, Rose Street, Teams, Gateshead, NE8 2LS.
You must be highly motivated, exceptional organisational skills and time management skills, driven and able to meet targets.

'What next?' transition event evaluation report

The focus of this event was to bring together families and people working with disabled young people to:

  • Hear from disabled young people about what matters to them

  • Consider the findings from a report on improving pathways to employment, further education and training

  • Take part in action planning to transform strategies in to reality

  • Pick up a copy of Gateshead's new transition resource pack

  • Get information from service providers and support agencies on further education, employment, leisure and more.
